Tanglewood’s COVID policies & safety procedures

Article by Dee-Anne Doak, MACP/RCC

Taking care of our mental health is more important than ever. Here’s how Tanglewood is operating with your COVID safety in mind.

How is Tanglewood Counselling helping ensure the safety of clients?

Remote counselling available

Telehealth and phone counselling options are available to all clients to help eliminate transmission risks.

I’ve been doing remote counselling sessions with clients since well before the COVID-19 situation. In my experience, counselling by phone or video conferencing is just as effective as traditional in-person counselling sessions.

Even once we’re through the COVID pandemic, telehealth therapy is here to stay!

In-person counselling safety measures

In-person counselling sessions for individuals or couples are still available while observing the below precautions*.

What I ask of you:

  1. Complete a short COVID questionnaire before each in-person appointment.
  2. Please wear a face mask or covering during your sessions. If this is a challenge for you, you must let me know ahead of time.
  3. Arrive no more than 5 minutes early for your sessions.
  4. Use the supplied hand sanitizer when you arrive (located just inside the entrance).
  5. Only bring the items you need for the counselling session inside the session room.

What you can expect from me:

  1. I will always wear a face mask or covering during your appointment.
  2. In-person appointments will be staggered with at least 30 minutes between clients.
  3. All surfaces will be sanitized (including the washroom if used) between appointments.
  4. Chairs will be placed at least 2m/6ft apart.
  5. During nice weather outdoor counselling is also an option.

* These precautions are based on BC Health Services recommendations. All policies are subject to change as the COVID-19 situation develops.

COVID-19 Questionnaire

Here is the current questionnaire that I ask each client to complete before every in-person appointment.

  1. Have you travelled outside of Canada within the last 14 days?
  2. Have you been identified by Public Health as a close contact of someone with COVID-19?
  3. Have you been told to isolate by Public Health?
  4. Are you showing any of the following (new or worsening) symptoms?
    • Fever or chills
    • Extreme fatigue or tiredness
    • Cough
    • Loss of sense of smell or taste
    • Headache
    • Body aches
    • Difficulty breathing
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Sore throat
    • Diarrhea
    • Loss of appetite

Depending on your answers to the above questions, you may or may not be allowed to take in-person counselling sessions.
